About this Saree

About the Noori VIS Kashmiri Kurti

Kashmir and Lucknow have been in conversation for centuries. The trade routes, the court connections, the movement of artisans and patrons between the two great creative centres of northern India — all of it built a dialogue between the Kashmiri design vocabulary and the Lucknow embroidery tradition that produced some of the most beautiful textiles the subcontinent has ever seen. The paisley — that ancient, endlessly interpreted teardrop form — travelled from the shawls of Kashmir into the hands of Lucknow's Chikankari artisans and was transformed there into something new: the same motif, the same inner complexity, the same layered floral fills and curving forms, but now rendered in white thread on white fabric, visible in texture and shadow, present as craft rather than colour. The Kashmiri Chikankari tradition is one of the richest and most demanding within the Lucknow craft world — it asks more of the artisan than simpler styles, rewards patience and skill with motifs of genuine depth and beauty, and produces kurtis that look festive and refined without ever needing to announce themselves loudly.

On premium Viscose, the Kashmiri Chikankari handwork of the Noori VIS Kurti achieves an effect that Rayon and even Modal cannot quite match. Viscose has a silky, almost liquid quality to its drape — it falls from the shoulder in smooth, continuous folds that give the full body Kashmiri embroidery maximum visibility and maximum grace. The silky surface of the Viscose makes every Chikankari stitch appear sharper and more defined than it would on a matte ground — each paisley crisply outlined, each floral fill precisely rendered, the interior detail of every Kashmiri motif visible with a clarity that rewards a close look and a long one. The density of the Kashmiri handwork across the full body of this kurti — yoke, chest, body, hem — makes it one of the most richly worked pieces in the entire Noori collection. It wears like a festive piece and feels like a daily one. Because on Viscose, even the most elaborate Chikankari carries itself lightly.

ABOUT THIS WEAVE

Noori VIS Kashmiri Chikankari Kurti — About This Weave

The Banarasi Organza Saree represents one of the lightest and most ethereal forms of Banarasi weaving. Organza — a sheer, tightly woven fabric — takes on a new dimension when worked with traditional Banarasi gold zari techniques on a pit loom. The result is a saree that is simultaneously delicate and opulent.

The Aqua Mist colourway is achieved through natural yarn dyeing before weaving — meaning the colour is embedded into the silk threads themselves, not printed or dyed on the surface. This gives the saree its characteristic depth and sheen, and ensures the colour retains its vibrancy through careful washing and storage.

At Ekaasam, every Organza Banarasi Saree is sourced directly from weaver families in Varanasi, cutting out middlemen and ensuring fair wages for artisans. When you purchase from Ekaasam, you directly support the preservation of a 500-year-old weaving tradition.
